COMMUNITY LUNCH WORKSHOPS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL

This year, we are excited to offer all high school students the opportunity to expand their knowledge base of certain valuable topics by attending a monthly interactive workshop during their lunch period.  The workshops will take place during the first week of each month and will be run by community professionals who are willing to share their expertise and insights with students.

Joakim Lartey, a professional, storyteller and musician will host our first workshop on Thursday October 2nd in the High School library. He will help students obtain a deeper understanding of themselves, including their roots, beliefs and values through music and storytelling.

Joakim Lartey was born in Ghana, West Africa. As a young adult, he lived on the West Coast of the United States as an exchange student and played regularly with rock and stage bands. He returned to Ghana to finish school and study more music. Joakim soon returned to the US and graduated from Vassar College where he studied biology and ethnomusicology. Additionally, he has worked with innovative and original theater groups like Hudson River Playback Theater and Arm of the Sea Theater.
Joakim has also facilitated rhythm workshops in the US, Canada and Jamaica and performs in a wide variety of settings like schools, colleges, community centers and performing arts centers.  He currently serves on The Ulster County Human Rights Commission and is a well-regarded mediator and conflict manager working with schools and communities around New York State.
