At the request of the Superintendent, Rondout Valley School District has implemented increased security measures as a result of the recent school tragedy in Connecticut. We need the help of our students to ensure a safe secure learning environment.  Please read over the following expectations regarding entering and exiting the building. These expectations will be implemented immediately.

I. ENTERING THE BUILDING 
a. From 7 AM – 7:40 AM students may enter through the following doors. 
i. 500 Wing Lobby Main doors
ii. Student Drop-Off Doors:  Doors at the corner of the 400/500 Wings. 
iii. Main Gym Vestibule Doors:  The new entrance vestibule on the boys’ side of the main gym.
b. After 7:45 AM all students, parents, and community members are to enter through the 500 Wing Lobby doors ONLY.   
c. Students arriving at the school between 7:00 AM and 7:20 AM are to report to the 500 Wing lobby and remain there until 7:20 AM.  

II. EXITING THE BUILDING
a. During school hours 7:40 AM – dismissal:  All students, parents, community members should exit the building through the 500 Wing Lobby doors.  Some exceptions
i. PM BOCES students may leave via the vestibule doors between 10:50 AM and 11 AM. 
ii. Gym classes will use the Main Gym Vestibule doors to exit and enter for outside PE classes.  
iii. Emergency drills: Use the exit the teacher directs you to during emergency drills.  
b. At dismissal, students may exit through the 500 Wing Lobby doors or the Main Gym Vestibule Doors only.  

III. AFTER SCHOOL – Entering and exiting the building 
a. Students participating in sports may use the Main Gym Vestibule doors to enter and exit after school. 
b. Students may exit through the Main Gym Vestibule doors to get to the 4 PM late busses. 
c. Night School students should enter and exit through the 500 Wing Lobby doors. 

IV. DISCIPLINE 
a. The school needs the help of students to follow the expectations for entering and exiting the high school.  Please know that failure to follow expectations will lead to discipline including loss of driving privilege. In addition to the expectations above, please know that it is unacceptable to 
i. Open/unlock prohibited doors for other people. 
ii. Leave the building without appropriate permission.
iii. Students are not to go out to the cars to drop off/get items from their cars during the day without permission from an Assistant Principal.

Click here for more information about a robotics program that BOCES Career Tech will sponsor. The District is looking to house the program at Rondout Valley High School next year.  Availability for the program is limited, so contact your counselors if your child is interested.

Extra Help After School at RVHS
Rondout has many ways to provide extra time and support to students after school.
 

Teachers often stay after school to offer help in their classrooms. 

In addition, we have a program called Teacher Study Support (TSS) in which certified content area teachers are available for any student who needs help.   TSS runs from 2:30 – 4 p.m.  in the library according to the schedule below.  Any student who needs extra help can attend TSS.   Teachers may also refer student to TSS if they need extra help.
 
Most of our science classes have a lab requirement. Students cannot sit for the Regents exam at the end of the year, and therefore cannot earn credit for the course, unless they first meet the lab requirements.  When students are absent for a science lab, they should attend one of the science lab make-up sessions. See the schedule below.
